New Mexico’s city of Albuquerque, the county seat of Bernalillo County, was named in honor of the Duke of Alburquerque, the viceroy of New Spain. It was funded in 1706 as a Spanish colonial outpost and named Alburquerque and incorporated in 1891 as Albuquerque.
