The city of Hoboken, New Jersey is situated in Hudson County. Located on the Hudson Waterfront, it was settled in the 1600s as part of the New Netherland colony of Pavonia. In the 1800s, Colonel John Stevens developed the city as a resort. It would later become a residential area. Kt became a township in 1849 and a city in 1855. The first recorded game of baseball is thought to have taken place in Hoboken. It is also the hometown of crooner Frank Sinatra, and there are several parks and streets which are named in his honor. Despite what many believe, the city does not take its name from the Hoboken district of Antwerp, but from the Flemish town of the same name.
