Addison's disease, which is alternatively know as hypocortisolism or chronic adrenal insufficiency, is a rare chronic disorder of the endocrine system which causes the adrenal glands to not produce enough steroid hormones, such as glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids. Those who suffer from Addison's are treated by oral replacement of the hormones which are absent from the system.
