The town of Sandown is situated in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. It was named after the seaside resort town of Sandown on the coast of the Isle of Wight. The town was, at one time, part of Kingston. It was incorporated as a town by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth in 1756. The first meetinghouse was built by Rev. Josiah Cotton in 1774. It was used for meetings until 1929 and now belongs to a local nonprofit organization.
