Salem, New Hampshire is in Rockingham County. It was first settled in 1652. In 1736, Salem was known as the North Parish of Methuen in Massachusetts. When the boundary dispute between New Hampshire and Massachusetts was resolved in 1741, North Parish became Salem and was a part of New Hampshire. It takes its name from the famed Salem, Massachusetts. It was incorporated by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth in 1750.
