The town of Pittsfield, New Hampshire is situated in Merrimack County. It was settled in 1758 by a handful of settlers from Hampton. The town's founder, John Cram, established grist mills and sawmills. Pittsfield was incorporated in 1782, but for many years prior to that, it was unnamed. It was named in honor of Prime Minister of Great Britain William Pitt. In 1901, Globe Manufacturing has manufactured protective clothing for firefighters, and the continue even now. In 2001, Pittsfield set a Guinness Word Records when 522 people wore Groucho Marx glasses at the same time. It was the first time that particular category had been tried.
