Chadron is the county seat of Dawes County and home to Chadron State College. The Nebraska city is also the U.S. Forest Service headquarters of the Nebraska and Samuel R. McKelvie National Forests, and the Buffalo Gap, Fort Pierre and Oglala National Grasslands. Nearby is the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation of the Oglala Lakota in South Dakota.
