St. Louis, Missouri is an independent city and as such is not in any county. It was founded in 1764 by a French fur trader and his stepson who worked with him. Due to its location on the Mississippi, it became a major American port city. It was the first American city to host the Olympics in 1904, which was the same year it hosted the World’s Fair.
