Branson, Missouri, situated in Taney County was named in honor of Reuben Branson, the first postmaster and proprietor of the general store in the late 19th century. From the very beginning, it was a tourist town. In 1984, William Lynch bought Marble Cave and changed its name to Marvel Cave, after which he began charging people who wanted to tour it. It is now a major tourist attraction.
