The capital of the state of Michigan, Lansing, is situated in both Ingham County and Eaton County. In the winter of 1835-36, two brothers went to Lansing, New York, where the scammed people into believing that they were selling lots to a real town in Michigan. Sixteen men bought non-existent property, and when they got there found that there was no town at all. Several stayed, and they named the place “Lansing Township.”
