The gulf port city of Shreveport, Louisiana is the seat of Caddo Parish. It is separated from Bossier City by the Red River. It was founded in 1836 by the Shreve Town Company, which was a company tasked with developing a town at the junction of the Red River, which was cleared and made navigable by Henry Shreve of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Texas Trail. Shreveport was the capital of Louisiana from 1863 until 1865.
