Louisville, Kentucky is the county seat of Jefferson County as well as the largest city in the state. although it is an important shipping port, it is more famous for its racetrack, Churchill Downs, which is the location of the Kentucky Derby. It was founded as a settlement by George Rogers Clark in 1778 and was named in honor of the French King Louis XVI.
