Idaho Falls, the county seat of Bonneville County, Idaho, was established on the site of Taylor’s Crossing, a bridge on the Montana Trail, which spanned the Snake River. Originally known as Eagle Rock after an island in the Snake River, it was renamed Idaho Falls in 1891 after a vote of the townspeople.
