Idaho Falls, the county seat of Bonneville County, Idaho, was established on the site of Taylor’s Crossing, a bridge on the Montana Trail, which spanned the Snake River. The importance of this bridge in the westward migration was immeasurable. Originally known as Eagle Rock after an island in the Snake River, it was renamed Idaho Falls in 1891 after a vote of the townspeople.
