The capital city of the State of Georgia is Atlanta, which is also the county seat of Fulton County, though part of the city is in DeKalb County. It began its life as the terminus of a railroad line. It was a military supply hub in the American Civil War and was invaded by the Union Army in 1864, remaining under siege for more than four months. General Sherman ordered the city burned, which was one of the key events in the book and movie “Gone With the Wind.”
