Pensacola, Florida, is the seaport city which is furthest west on the Florida Panhandle. It is the county seat of Escambia County. Its nickname is “The City of Five Flags,” given that five different governments have flown their flag over the city: Spain, France, England, the Confederate States of America, and finally, the United States. It is named for the tribe of Indians which once inhabited the area.
