Hartford, the capital of the state of Connecticut, is nicknamed the Insurance Capital of the World due to the huge number of insurance companies headquartered there. It is one of the oldest cities in the United States and is home to the oldest public park, the oldest public art museum, and the oldest continuously published newspaper, the Hartford Courant. It takes its name from the British town of Hertford, which was the hometown of one of the prominent settlers, Samuel Stone.
