Longmont, Colorado is situated in northeastern Boulder County, extending east into western Weld County, northeast of Boulder. Founded by a group of settlers from Chicago in 1871, the community was originally known as the Chicago-Colorado Colony. St. Vrain Creek, a tributary of the South Platte River, flows through the city.
