Situated at the base of the Rocky Mountains, about twenty-five miles northwest of Denver, the city of Boulder, Colorado is the seat of Boulder County. The area that was to become Boulder was settled as a result of the Pikes Peak Gold Rush in 1858, with the first settlements being made at the mouth of Boulder Canyon, and along Boulder Creek. Boulder was incorporated as a city in 1871.
