Situated in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County, California, the City of Torrance was incorporated in 1921. Its history began in the early 1900s, when Jared Sidney Torrance, a real estate developer, created it as an industrial-residential community south of Los Angeles, and the resulting town was founded in 1912. The town experienced rapid growth following World War II. Roger Clinton, the half-brother of former president Bill Clinton, was a resident of Torrance.
