The official name of the west coastal city San Francisco, California, is the City and County of San Francisco, making it the only consolidated city-county in the state. The city is on a peninsula, and two of its nicknames are the City by the Bay and Fog City. Former nicknames have included Frisco, which is despised by most true residents of the city, the City that Knows How, the Paris of the West, and Baghdad by the Bay. It is among the top tourist destinations of the world.
