What most people call the United Kingdom, or UK, is actually named the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is a sovereign state, situated off the coast of continental Europe and is made up of four countries: England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland. It also contains three Crown Dependencies, which are the Channel Island Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey the Isle of Man.
