The Republic of Fiji is an island nation in the South Pacific situated on islands which were formed by volcanic activity. It is made up of more than 332 islands, about one-third of which are inhabited, and approximately 500 islets. The official languages are English, Bau Fijian, and Fiji Hindi, and the capital is Suva. About 87% of the population lives on the two islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
