Known commonly as North Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) sits in East Asia in the northern half of the Korean Peninsula. The largest city, Pyongyang, is also its capital, and the official language is Korean. The Korean Demilitarized Zone, which is about 2.5 miles wide, divides North Korea from South Korea, which is the only country with which North Korea shares a land border.

The route is said to be impossible for tourists, and it was probably the first time since 1994 that it has been done.
