The continent of Africa is the second largest continent on the planet. It straddles the Equator and is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the Atlantic Ocean. It has as a federation the African Union, which is made up of every African state except for Morocco. More than a thousand different languages are spoken by people in Africa, most of them having originated in Africa. The rest are of Asian or European origin.
