The French Revolution, a rebellion against King Louis XVI by the poor in France, lasted from 1789 to 1799 and marked the decline of monarchies and a beginning of nationalism. During this war, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen were written and adopted, the guillotine gained popularity, and blood literally ran through the streets.
