Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder which is characterized by interruptions in breathing of a sleeping person. These pauses may last for minutes at a time and occur from fie to thirty times an hour, and in extreme cases, even more. Sleep apnea may be caused by a physical blocking of the airway or the body's lack of effort to breathe, and snoring is usually attendant.
