Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder which is characterized by seizures, which are symptoms of abnormal or hyper synchronous neuronal brain activity. It is not a single disorder, but a syndromic one with very different symptoms, each of which involves episodic abnormal electrical brain activity. Most cases of epilepsy are controlled with medication, but more than one-third of all people who have it do not have seizure control, even with medication.
