Three are several branches of Buddhism. The two major branches are Mahayana and Theravada, and other smaller branches, Tibetan and Vairavana. Zen Buddhism is a denomination of Mahayana, and New Kadampa is a denomination of Tibetan Buddhism.

The blogger's interest in Tibetan Buddhism began in the 1990s in Hawaii, and as a result, he wrote his Master's thesis, entitled Vajrayana Forms in Upstate New York, which was about Tibetan Buddhist architecture. He has since toured the United States looking at that style, and here he posts photographs and slide shows of buildings along with his commentary on them.
