The Presbyterian Church is a Calvinist tradition which emphasizes the sovereignty of God, salvation through the grace that comes from faith in Christ, and the authority of the Scriptures. Originally formed in Scotland in 1707, they derive their name from the Greek word presbyters, which means "elder."
