The continent of Australia includes the country of Australia, East Timor, Papua New Guinea, and parts of Indonesia. New Zealand is part of the geologic continent, which is to say, the part which is not on the mainland. That part of the continent, which is on a different continental shelf, is known as the submerged continent of Zealandia. Together the mass is frequently called Australasia or Oceania. There are more than 350 languages spoken in Australia.
