Tax law is the body of rules and laws under which the government has a claim in taxpayers and which requires them to transfer to the government part of their income or property. The tax laws of the federal government are different and separate from the tax laws of the several states, though there are similarities. In like manner, the tax laws of each state is different from all other states, though, again, there are frequently similarities between state taxation laws.
