Romance fiction is the literary genre which has the primary focus on romantic love between two people and, in western English-speaking countries, usually ends optimistically and on an emotionally satisfying note. The earliest romance novel, entitled "Pamela," was written in 1740 about a courtship, written from the point of view of the female protagonist.
