Destiny Hope Cyrus, known as Miley Ray Cyrus, was born November 23, 1992 to country singer Billy Ray Cyrus and his wife Tish. When she was 11 years old, she starred in the Disney Channel's television series Hannah Montana. She became a huge star with a wholesome, Christian image in this wildly successful television series. She also became a singing star under Disney's auspices. By 2013, her public image had made a 180 degree turn, declaring marijuana as "the best drug on earth," and alluded to use of MDMA, known as "ecstasy." Her appearance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards wearing a latex outfit and twerking caused widespread criticism and consternation.
