The Great Depression, which began with the American stock market crash of 1929, known as Black Tuesday, was the severe economic downturn which affected all countries on the globe. Unemployment rose to more than 25% in America and even higher in other countries. Some of the effects of that downturn lasted until after the end of World War II.
