Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 - April 15, 1965) was America’s 16th President. He was assassinated during the beginning of his second term on April 15, 1865. He was a leader of the Whig Party, a state lawmaker, and a member of Congress. He opposed the expansion of slavery and was the first President of the new Republican Party. Lincoln prosecuted the American Civil War and was shot to death in Ford’s theater by actor John Wilkes Booth.
