Niccolo di Bernardo del Machiavelli (May 3, 1469 - June 21, 1527) was an Italian diplomat, philosopher, politician, and writer during the Renaissance. He was, as were many of the great minds of that era, also a humanist. He was also instrumental in the formation of modern political science and political ethics. He is most remembered for his manuscript, "The Prince." His name is a derogatory term which denotes unscrupulous politicians.
